Incredible Crayon Art!
last modified: Friday, March 13, 2009 (10:52:07 AM CST)
Artist Christian Faur has assembled more than one hundred thousand hand cast crayons of varying colors and shades to produce a body of work that is unlike anything done before in art. These individual “pixels” of wax are precisely stacked into specific locations inside of wooden frames to produce a new art form that uniquely balances the qualities of both photography and sculpture. Really amazing! I stood back from my desktop monitor and be sure to squint your eyes as the images become more "detailed."

Coraline - Behind the Scenes
last modified: Friday, February 13, 2009 (11:42:46 AM CST)
We know how anime shows are produced. Each cel is photographed and placed in a sequence of other cels in order to create an illusion of movement. I’m amazed at the intricacies of the movie set of Coraline, a 3-D stop motion animation. The sets are incredible.

The Car Miyazaki Drives

Hayao Miyazaki seems like a very simple person. The prominent director of many popular animated feature films and he is a big fan of 2CV!

Abstract Expressionism
last modified: Sunday, February 08, 2009 (10:00:16 PM CST)
I did not like Jackson Pollock's work when I first saw it. A friend of mine, when she was a very young, was an acquaintance of a Japanese artist Matsumi Kanemitsu, who also was a friend and contemporary of Jackson Pollock. I was very much an avid artist who wanted to draw and paint realistically. However, I kept studying Pollock's work and slowly began a true admiration for his work.

Beyond the seemingly "uncontrolled" and accidental "look" of his paintings are very controlled handling of the artist's medium. What seems accidental is very controlled. If you look ever very closely at a Pollock original (and I suggest you do), you will see the real "energy" in his work. One can often "feel" the energy of his "drips" being placed on the canvas.

Be creative. And, as YOU work your canvas, allow your energy to flow forth!

Movie Poster Floating Heads
last modified: Friday, February 06, 2009 (11:54:20 AM CST)
An idea hit me in the middle of the night to do a blog that would somehow amuse or resonate with other fellow collectors. Content may or may not relate to the subject of cel collecting, but will follow my daily musings on just about everything. Call it a social networking experiment in selective content which resonates with me. I hope you find what I post amusing if not interesting.
